Underglaze-decorated Figures

This figure of Marat is after the oil portrait of Marat by Joseph Boze, 1793, now in the Musée Carnavalet in Paris. Boze’s portrayal was reproduced in print form for decades, with modifications, but Marat is easily recognized by his features and hair style. An example of this figure in the Metropolitan Museum is described as Charles James Fox (41.194.2). Another in the Hunt Collection, previously with Jonathan Horne. is described as Marat, and I and am confident it represents Marat.
