Enamel-painted Figures

131.31. This sheep is shown in Volume 4, but the caption fails to note that it is impressed "SALT."
131.31a. Another rare black sheep, but made without a bocage. Courtesy Franklin Browns.
131.31. Reverse of previous black sheep made without a bocage. Courtesy Franklin Brown.
131.38a. Attributed to the Patriotic Group. Courtesy Andrew Dando.
131.58a. Like 131.58, this is "Sherratt" but with a different typical "Sherratt" bocage and touches of pink luster. Courtesy eBay seller cathdomesticgoddess.
131.61a. Ewe attributed to "Sherratt" and having a bocage more commonly see on figures in the "Sherratt" turquoise palette. See 131.61 for the same model in a turquoise palette.
131.64a. Attributed to Sherratt. The initials painted on the back are more usually found on Enoch Wood sheep. Courtesy Hertford Avenue Antiques,
131.64b. Reverse of 131.64a.
131.73a. This large sheep is the companion model to 131.73. The features establish a Leather Leaf Group attribution. Perhaps 131.73 was made by that pot bank too, but there are no features that support attribution.
131.73b. The companion figure to 131.73a and also made by the Leather Leaf Group pot bank. Courtesy Capes Dunn Auctions.
131.77a. I am reasonably sure this is a Big Blossom Group figure. The tiny photo makes attribution very difficult.
131.98a. An unusual and distinctively modeled sheep. Courtesy Martyn Edgell.
131.98b. Reverse of previous figure, Courtesy Martyn Edgell.
131.100a. Companion model to 131.100.
131.101a. Courtesy Martyn Edgell.
131.126a. Like 131.126 but a pair.
131.154a. Attributed to "Sherratt." Companion to 131.154. Courtesy eBay seller antiques 1907.
131.156a. Attributed to "Sherratt." Like 131.156 but with another bocage form. Courtesy East Bristol Auctions.
131.156b. Attributed to "Sherratt" and faces in the opposite direction to the Sherratt rams shown in 131.155-56.
131.159a. I am reasonably sure that this can be attributed to Dudson. The tiny picture makes confident attribution difficult.
131.182a.
131.188a. Walton attributions are so overused, but I suspect this may be Walton. The painting of the bocage coupled with all else suggests it.
189a. A better version of 189, along with its companion. Courtesy John Howard.
131.194a.
113.209a. Courtesy Woolley & Wallis.
131.223
131.224. These sheep have yellow bodies.
131.225. The pot bank that made this also made other animal models with this distinctive spill vase. See below for a color-glazed example with a goat, which is probably earlier and by another pot bank. (c) Bonhams.
131.226
131.227. Courtesy John Howard.
131.228
131.229. Made without bocage. Courtesy Albion House Antiques.
131.230. An unsusual sheep made without bocage. Courtesy Morabool Antiques.
131.231. Reverse of previously shown sheep. Courtesy Morabool Antiques.
131.232. Courtesy Robert Walker.
131.233. Salt glaze with enamels, circa 1760. Courtesy Martyn Edgell.
131.234. Attributed to the Big Blossom Group.
131.235. Courtesy eBay seller hoscarcat.
131.236. Sheep made of colored clay and formed as a money box. Courtesy John Howard.
131.237. Reverse of previous sheep money box. Courtesy John Howard.
131.238. Courtesy Chiswick Auctions
131.239. Courtesy eBay seller davieie.
131.242. Previous sheep alongside two smaller sheep with bocages formed in the same manner. Courtesy Robert Carde.
131.240. Courtesy eBay seller katja2.

131.241.The large pearlware sheep alongside is the largest sheep on record, an honor previously held by fig. 131.73. This sheep is 15" across and 12" high, and, like similarly styled figures of cows, is thought to have been intended to hold a sign in a shop window. Lamb chops sold here, perhaps?:)  Courtesy John Howard.
